Hello and welcome to a special edition of the Des Femmes newsletter! 👋

We’re thrilled to share more about our print magazine with all of you! Des Femmes Magazine is officially scheduled to be on shelves at Barnes & Noble, Chapters, and Books-A-Million bookstores across North America toward the end of November. Until then, the magazine is available to purchase online at
While we anticipate the official launch in two weeks, we wanted to share a sneak peak of the cover (humongous shoutout to Tiffany Sin, who contributed our gorgeous cover photo). If you take a selfie with your own rare collectible (only 10,000 issues printed!) be sure to tag us on Instagram at @desfemmesmag.

I’m Tiffany, a fashion and portrait photographer from Toronto, Ontario. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to photograph Esther Park for the upcoming Des Femmes cover. Funny enough, it was actually the first time I got paid in crypto…ever.
Crypto was something I had known about for a while but I had brushed it off as something for tech bros and people who wanted to surreptitiously buy stuff off the internet. As it became easier to access for the tech-illiterate, my interest piqued. Eventually I got into crypto because, like many, I needed to start thinking about my financial future. Plus, I had a healthy distrust of the stock market and knew a few people who had made a good amount of money off altcoins.
In January 2021, I bought my first $100 of crypto, mostly bitcoin. To me, it held more promise and less risk than stocks due to its simplicity and inherent transparency.
In April 2021, I got paid (by Des Femmes Magazine) in cryptocurrency for the first time. In my work, I prioritize working with women, people of color and people in the lgbtq+ community where and when I can. It’s important to put money into the hands of people who have been traditionally disenfranchised in an industry that doesn’t often prioritize them beyond tokenization. The ability to pay someone with a currency that continues to grow is an investment into both our futures. It’s a powerful way for women to connect through business and value each other.
There’s a saying on the internet that working class people pass around the same $20 to each other, but when it’s bitcoin, the story changes. I don’t pretend to understand how it all works or what the future holds. But what I do understand is that cryptocurrency feels necessary for a more equitable future. Getting paid in crypto and paying others in it feels like freedom. That was our inspiration for this shoot. I hope you enjoy the portraits in this magazine!
Thanks, Tiffany!!
